After watching the Sewing Bee I would like to start making something . I see patterns are £8.99 and then the materials threads etc it can be costly so wonder how I start on something that wont be an expensive disaster. I have also seen about making aprons from mens old shirts, has anyone done this?
Some of the sewing magazines have free patterns with them. Also Prima mag, you have to phone them up to request the pattern, they take a little while to get to you but they can be good. it depends what you want to make, but craft shows and markets can be good sources of cheap fabric.
If you are thinking of making aprons from old shirts - you could try charity shops for the old shirts ..... just a thought. There appear to be quite a few videos on aprons from old shirts ... try this link
