Hi, I am looking at starting three haeds soon, and wonder if anybody can help me with some measurements. I bought a piece of DMC magic guide fabric and am hoping I can fit them. Just scared of cutting the fabric that's all lol. If anyone can help please let me know and I'll post my next question on here then. Thankyou so much Bronwynne xxx
The best way to measure fabric is to find the measurements of the finished design (as shown on the chart) then add 3 inches all the way round.
So for example a design is 381 high x 487 by stitches the size of the finished design will be 15¼ x 19½ inches (on 25 count over 1 thread) Then you'll need to add 3 inches all the way round, you can leave more if you like but 3 inches is usually the norm.
Therefore you'll need a piece of fabric measuring 21 inches by 25½ inches. (6 inches added to the top and 6 inches added to the bottom will give you a 3 inch border all the way around)
If you're ever in doubt on what size to cut your fabric, use this handy Fabric Calculator
On one of my HAEDs the measurement of the stitched area is already given for me (15inches x 20 inches) so I'll need 21 inches x 26 inches of fabric.
Also if the measurements are just over like 19⅜ inches, I'll round it to 20 and so fourth.
If you wanted to stitch this design on 18ct aida, you will simply take the measurements (381 x 487 in this case) and divide them by 18
So your design will then be 21 x 27 inches (rounded off to the nearest number) - don't forget to add your margin, so your fabric size will be 27 x 33 inches.
This works with any size Aida (14, 16, 18, 22 etc..)
